Professor John L Duncan, OBE,

John Duncan trained in Aberdeen, Boston and Sheffield before becoming a general and vascular surgeon in Inverness for 25 years. He then spent a further five years as the head of teaching for The University of Aberdeen in Inverness with a personal chair from 2015. Clinically he initiated aortic aneurysm screening in Scotland, demonstrating its effectiveness in remote and rural settings. In 1999 he was elected to the Council of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland serving as its Treasurer for five years. He then spent 11 years on the Council of the College holding the posts of Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President and was the editor of Surgeons’ News for seven years. He was awarded an OBE for services to healthcare in the north of Scotland in 2015.
